I discovered early in my career that helping clients reduce their taxes was only solving part of the puzzle. After graduating from UNC Charlotte with a degree in accounting, I joined Sledge and Company, PLLC in 1992 as a staff accountant. Working alongside business owners and families, I realized they needed more than tax strategies. They needed someone who could see the complete picture and help them navigate every aspect of their financial life.
That realization shaped the next three decades of my career. I earned my CPA certificate (22495) and began focusing on personalized financial services. Over the years, I added both the CFP® and PFS designations because I wanted the expertise to truly serve clients at the highest level. Eventually, we created Sledge and Company Wealth Advisors to provide the comprehensive solutions families were asking for.
Twenty-five years in this industry has taught me that taxes remain one of the largest expenses in retirement, which is why tax-smart strategies sit at the center of everything we do. But it's never just about the numbers. I love helping people simplify their financial lives and find confidence in the decisions they're making. When clients can focus on what matters most to them instead of worrying about the details, that's when I know we've done our job well.
I've lived in High Point most of my life and love this area. The Triad gives you access to everything a larger city offers while maintaining that small-town feel where you actually know your neighbors. My wife Kim and I have two children. Justin works with us at the firm, and Katie recently finished her master's in finance. When I'm not in the office, you'll find me at the beach, fishing, or exploring somewhere new. My faith and involvement at Rich Fork Baptist Church are central to who I am and provide real motivation in this work of helping others.
