Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Sledge and Company different from other wealth management firms?
We combine wealth management experience with in-depth tax knowledge. As a team of CPAs and financial advisors, we design strategies that not only grow your wealth but also help you keep more of it through tax-smart planning.
Why is working with a CPA and Wealth Advisor beneficial?
Taxes impact nearly every financial decision. By integrating tax planning with investment and retirement strategies, we help you avoid costly mistakes and maximize your long-term wealth.
What types of clients do you typically work with?
We serve individuals, families, and business owners who value comprehensive planning. Many of our clients are professionals or entrepreneurs seeking clarity and confidence in managing complex financial situations.
Is there a minimum account size to work with your firm?
Yes, we typically work with clients who have $500,000 or more in investable assets. This ensures we can deliver the full value of our integrated planning approach.
How do you create a personalized financial plan?
We start by understanding your goals, priorities, and current financial picture. Then we analyze your assets, income, and tax situation to design a plan that aligns with your objectives and adapts as life changes.
What is your investment philosophy?
We believe in disciplined, long-term investing tailored to your goals and risk tolerance. Our approach emphasizes diversification, tax efficiency, and strategies that balance growth with protection.
How do you manage risk in my portfolio?
Risk management starts with understanding your comfort level and objectives. We use asset allocation, diversification, and ongoing monitoring to keep your portfolio aligned with your plan.
Do you offer tax-smart investment strategies?
Absolutely. We structure portfolios to minimize taxes through asset location, tax-loss harvesting, and strategic use of tax-advantaged accounts.
How do you help reduce my tax burden?
Our CPAs review your entire tax picture to identify opportunities for savings. We plan ahead for future tax changes and integrate tax strategies into your investment and retirement planning.
What are tax-smart withdrawal strategies for retirement?
We coordinate withdrawals from taxable, tax-deferred, and tax-free accounts to minimize taxes over time. This includes strategies like Roth conversions and sequencing withdrawals for efficiency.
Do you assist with Roth conversions and Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs)?
Yes. We help you evaluate whether Roth conversions make sense and help ensure RMDs are handled correctly to avoid penalties and unnecessary taxes.
Can you help me plan for Social Security and other income sources?
Yes. We analyze your options for Social Security and integrate them with other income streams to create a sustainable retirement income plan.
What does your process look like from start to finish?
We follow a comprehensive, multi-step process designed to bring clarity and confidence to your financial life.
It begins with Discovery, where we take time to understand your goals, priorities, and concerns. Next, we conduct a detailed Analysis of your financial picture—reviewing assets, income, and tax considerations—to identify opportunities and strategies tailored to your objectives.
When you’re ready to move forward, we handle all the paperwork to set up and transfer your investment accounts. Once accounts are in place, we create an integrated financial, investment, and tax plan. This Implementation phase typically spans several weeks and includes multiple planning meetings to ensure everything is aligned with your vision for the future.
How often will we meet or review my plan?
We typically schedule three key meetings each year to keep your plan on track.
- Early in the year: We review the prior year’s investment performance and plan for current-year cash flow needs.
- Mid-year: We update your financial plan and make any necessary adjustments based on changes in your goals or circumstances.
- Late fall: We focus on proactive tax planning to help minimize your tax burden before year-end.
In addition to these scheduled meetings, we’re available throughout the year for any questions or updates as needed. Meeting frequency may vary based on account minimums.
What are your fees and how are they structured?
We charge a transparent, asset-based fee for wealth management services. Tax return preparation and other specialized services may have separate fees, which we discuss upfront.
Do you provide ongoing support after the initial plan is implemented?
Yes. We view our relationship as a long-term partnership, providing continuous monitoring, updates, and adjustments as your life and goals evolve.
Do you help with estate planning and wealth transfer strategies?
Yes. We work with you and your attorney to design strategies that protect your wealth and help create a lasting legacy for future generations.
Can you coordinate with my attorney or other advisors?
Absolutely. We collaborate with your entire advisory team to ensure your financial, tax, and estate plans work together seamlessly.
